Holy Week Journey Activity 

Kits will be handed out starting this Sunday, February 28th

Holy Week

Begins on Palm Sunday and ends the night before Easter with Holy Saturday.

Palm Sunday:  Grey square for the color associated with the donkeys, and to signify Jesus' sadness over Jerusalem (Green pipe cleaners to display on the grey square to represent palm branches).

Monday to Wednesday: Purple squares (Each day move Jesus forward on the squares)

Thursday:  Wine red square, to remind us of the wine of the New Covenant (Picture of wine and bread to represent the Last Supper, wooden bead to represent a basin – as Jesus used this to wash the disciples feet).

Friday: Red square, for the blood that was shed for us (Remove figure representing Jesus and display black cross by the square this day) The simple wooden cross will remind us of the Son of God who bore our sins and shame.

Saturday: Black square, as we mourn His death

Sunday: White square, to celebrate His glorious resurrection! (Butterfly to display on the square representing new life).

Resurrection Eggs

The Resurrection eggs are another great way to engage your children in the Easter story.  We have 2 sets at church that we will use during children's worship.

Grace Kids Happenings

We have completed 6 days and the devotional time with the kids has been encouraging. There are questions directly related to what is read in the passage as well as personal reflection questions and prayer.  If you are looking for something as you continue to prepare for Easter I recommend it.

I love the simplicity of the grapevine wreath.  We use a circle hole punch and the kids are creating the  ornaments.  There are illustrations in the booklet that can be copied for individual use as well.  There are song suggestions listed with each devotion. The last 3 nights we have remembered songs from the Seeds Family Worship albums that went along perfectly with the devotions. 

Seeds Family Worship:  Do Not Fear and Young (Seeds of Courage album), The Fruit (Seeds of Character album) (The Seeds CDs are available on the Grace Kids Resource Table)

#3  Family Letters for Loving Our Missionaries Month - The letters and cards are an encouragement to the individuals and families we support. 

The Word Became Flesh

Tonight we sat down and started our Lenten Devotional - just a little late!!  We did the first three days tonight and it worked well since with three kids there is always an argument of who gets to read what parts.  They each selected a day and each of them put an ornament on the wreath (the other common argument during the Jesse Tree devotions). We are using stickers for some of the ornaments and letting the kids pick ornaments to draw.  

This year we are using the book:  The Word Became Flesh A Family Lenten Devotional Guide - Copies of the Devotional Guide are available on the Grace Kids Resource Table for $7. I picked up the grapevine wreath from Michaels for a few dollars. 

I wanted to put a plug in for the new Slugs and Bugs cds on the resource table for $10.  This Sunday I bought the Slugs and Bugs Sing the Bible.  You can check out the link and listen to the songs.  We put the cd in the karaoke machine and sang our hearts out tonight!!

*** One of the activities the children will be doing during their time is making a ball using plastic bags.  We are in need of plastic bags (Kroger, Walmart, etc.) for this activity.  If you have any extra to share we can put them to good use.  I will have a collection bin for plastic bags located by the Grace Kids Table.

Loving Our Mission Partners - Month of February!!

So excited that it is this time of year again where we give a concentrated focus on the mission partners we support!!

Grace Kids: 

Loving Our Mission Partners

#1 Use the Mission Partners Display located as you enter church to show children the mission partners we support. There are pictures of the mission partners we support by the following 3 categories:  International, Domestic, and Church Planting/Mercy Missions.  I encourage you to point out the different categories to your children and help them understand the MANY different locations people serve.

#2 Take a Prayer Card each week during the month of February.  Each week the prayer cards will highlight different mission partners. 

#3 Praying for Our Missionaries Handout and Globe Foam Ball– A handout will be provided to each family in order to share about our mission partners.  You can help your children locate where the missionaries are serving using the globe balls. All children preschool - 5th grade will receive a mini globe ball. 

#4 Family Letter – Please select one mission partner each week from the prayer card and work together as a family to send a note of encouragement or have your children draw pictures on the cards.  Your children can let them know in the letter that they are praying for them.  All letters will be collected and mailed out at the end of the month.  I would like to encourage each family to do one letter each week if possible (total of 4) during Loving Our Mission Partners month.  There will be a collection box for the letters by the Mission Partners Display.
